Representative Government

So, last week at the Cake Eater Pad we got a survey from our state representative about the upcoming legislative session. Now, because I'm all about the power of the people, I wanted to fill it out and send it in.

Until I realized that my duly elected state representative, Ron Erhardt---whom I voted for---decided that if I wanted to have my say, I was going to have to shell out $0.39 for postage. As you might expect, my devoted Cake Eater readers, that irked me.

So, because I don't feel I should have to pay for postage to let my duly elected state representative know how I feel on issues he thinks should be raised this legislative session, I filled out the survey and posted it here.

Don't you just love representative government? I do. Because I get blogging material out of it!

Could be worse. You could be building Jerry Jones a new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys (as I am). This's an eminent domain issue I can get really steamed about -- but that's a whole other topic.

But since I mentioned eminent domain. I've just learned that the Austin lawyer whom the Vice President peppered with birdshot is fighting (and winning) an eminent domain fight against the City of Austin. Now just think about that a moment: What were the odds that Dick Cheney would shoot a lawyer we admire?

Eh Kathy,

I don't recall the last 4 times I voted in St. Paul having to present ID. Merely had to sign the book.

Maybe my memory is faulty, but I don't think so.

I often have wondered what prevented someone from giving my name, signing in my spot, and casting my vote.

I've had to present ID every time I've ever voted in Minnesota. Maybe they only do that in Hennepin County.
