I Need a Boy Scout

Ummm, I have a serious question about flag burning that only a Boy Scout can answer.

Ahem

I have a United States flag that needs to be dispatched to the Great Beyond. I know the proper way to dispose of an American flag is to burn it. But...

Would it be really disrespectful of me to use lighter fluid to get said flag to burn?

I am completely serious. Help me out here, kids. We never covered this stuff in Girl Scouts.

call up the American Legion. They'll take care of it for you.

CTG is right you can call the American Legion and they'll help.

Other then that you really should have a fire already going when you lay the properly folded flag onto it. Even The flag code doesn't specifically say you can't use lighter fluid but it should be done with reverance for the flag.

Contagion, Eagle Scout.

Iran seems to be openly running a flag recycling service again, these days.

You want a fire already burning. Dispatch the flag in sections (stripe by stripe and then star field).

Contact a local Cub Scout pack or Boy Scout troop. They will frequently conduct flag retirement ceremonies (we did one on a family campout with our cub scouts back in April; we had a bugler and a representative from the Army in attendance. It was a very moving ceremony).
